Black Falls IV Re-Cap
50 Disc Golfers got together on a beautiful day to play Johnny Betts’ sweet courses in Montgomery, Vermont on Saturday, May 29th for the Black Falls IV Tournament.
Kicking of the only Woodchuck Cider Green Mountain Points Series “Double Points” event this year, almost every division played the longest layout of the Black Falls course: Gold Tees to the Gold Baskets. (Only the Recreation Division played from the Silver Tees to the Silver Baskets.) All divisions also played two round each on the newly opened Cherry Hill front 9, another long course with several holes clocking in at 4 par or more.
The new course did a number on a lot of players scores as did the surprise decision to have most everyone play gold to gold, but that didn’t change the winners circle much for the Pro Division. For the second year in a row, Daniel Marcus (total score 108) beat Johnny Betts (total score 116) on his own course for the first place win. And unlike the forced-to-a-tie-breaker result of last year, Daniel bests the field by a full 8 points. Here’s how the scores breakdown for the GMDGC members who competed.

AM1 Division was taken by Ian Thurston beating the 2nd place James Sweet by 2 points. And the results prove that Johnny Nelson didn’t earn the #73 BagTag that he took home. Johnny was one of many causalities — including myself — in my bag tag fiasco. (Please accept my apology to the multiple people who got back the wrong tag.)
AM2 Division finished with an exciting tie breaker between Justin, Dave, and Ann. But in the end, Justin Kaulius took the victory and the first place prize of a brand new portable practice basket. Nice work Justin!

AM Masters Division was a battle royal as Jay and Charlie worked hard to over take Mike in the second round at Cherry Hill. But Mike hung tough and nailed the victory with a total score of 134 for the day.
After the tournament ended and all the prizes and trophies were handed out, players who stayed were matched up for a round of doubles on the Gold/Gold course. The tournament made it all day rain free, but the evening doubles did not have the same luck. Starting almost immediately after the game began, the sky opened up a downpour. Multiple teams dropped out, but not everyone. Here’s a taste of what it looked like to those who stayed and played.

Hey, I know I didn’t do that well in the Advanced Master division but I at least should get my score listed.

June 8th, 2010 at 11:08 amNo worries. It was fun playing with you Andy. Did you see that you can find all the results — including non-GMDGC players — by clicking the link at the end of the post?
But Andy… you should join the GMDGC! The more members the better for VT disc golf!
