HELP INSTALL A NEW DISC GOLF COURSE AT VERGENNES UNION HIGH SCHOOL

VUHS has received approval and funding to install a basic disc golf course on the school grounds. The course is geared toward casual use for both elementary and high school students with a focus on the beginner disc golfer. A couple of folks from the local disc golf community have helped them plan this out and now is the time to install the baskets. They are putting in Discatchers with locking sleeves so the primary objective will be to get the holes dug (with a powered post hole digger) and the sleeves set in cement in each of the holes. If there is extra help we will also help assemble the baskets for installation. This is a great opportunity to help share disc golf with the next generation.

WHEN: This Sunday, Aug 29. We plan to start at 8:30am. If you can be on-time that would be great. However we expect to be working into the afternoon so if you can join us at a later time - that would be great as well.

WHERE: Vergennes Union High School (50 Monkton Road Vergennes, VT 05491). When you enter the school driveway - stay to your right and drive into the parking lot to the right (west) of the high school. We will be gathering on the near edge of the playing fields just beyond this parking lot.

WHAT TO BRING:
1. Work Gloves,
2. carpenter’s level if you have one
3. a post-hole shovel if you have one – or other sturdy long handled item that will help us mix the cement. We are going to mix the cement right in the post holes which are only 8″ diameter (and will have a post in the middle)so a standard spade (shovel) will not work, we need something with a smaller head).
4. Water (for yourself)
5. Snacks (for yourself – or to share)
6. An adjustable wrench or 2 – in case we get around to assembling the baskets

RSVP:
Its not necessary to RSVP, but if you can it would be very helpful for us planners. Please email me at pch3@cornell.edu and let me know when you come.

Each year Ace Racers are the first players to ever throw a new Discraft prototype disc. These discs are always designed to be easy to throw and control. Only 2008′s Nebula has never been officially released outside of Ace Race. Here’s the breakdown of the discs since the first year in 2003:

Players have been asking for something more overstable, and in it’s 8th year they finally decided to give in. The 2010 Ace Race prototype is a fast, overstable midrange. It has good speed for a mid, longer glide than you’ll expect, and a medium strong finish. When you turn it over it will always come back unless you really torque it. Will hold a line in a moderate to strong headwind. We are looking forward to hearing the chains you ring with it! Here’s a look at a photo of it.

So to try to keep the momentum going for new baskets at Waterbury's Center Chains Course, Rang Duce (James Sweat) is putting together a little fund raiser.

This Saturday, July 31st at Center Chains. $20 per person ($10 to payout, $10 towards course). Meeting at 930am and start at 10am. First round stroke play (everyone plays singles), second round high/low doubles based on the first round scores (the lowest scoring person teams up with the highest scoring person and so on down the line).

Rang Duce would love to see this work and be the beginning of a series of fund raisers to improve the course (baskets, signs, tee boxes).

Rang Duce also would like to beg anyone who will listen, for some prize donations for ctp's or ldc's and just stuff so hopefully alot of people will get something out of it.

The Center Chains Disc Golf course is trying to raise enough money to purchase new baskets. The GMDGC is in a financial position to purchase two baskets.

This is a change to the approved 2010 budget and will require a majority vote from the membership to proceed. The GMDGC has exceeded member budget by 31 members, when the cost per member is removed this leaves us with approx. $525 in unbudgeted funds. We also began the year with $1000 in operating cash. Using the unbudgeted funds plus some of our operating capital the club can afford to purchase 2 baskets for Center Chains.

Should the GMDGC commit to purchasing two baskets for the Center Chains Disc Golf Course?

Great news!

The Pittsford Recreation Center has added a fantastic 9-hole course - open to all ages for free.

Disc Golf expands in Vermont as another recreation department responds to the needs of its community. If you live in Southern Vermont, make sure to get the word out and play on this brand new course.

Check out this short video they shot to promote it:

50 Disc Golfers got together on a beautiful day to play Johnny Betts' sweet courses in Montgomery, Vermont on Saturday, May 29th for the Black Falls IV Tournament.

Kicking of the only Woodchuck Cider Green Mountain Points Series "Double Points" event this year, almost every division played the longest layout of the Black Falls course: Gold Tees to the Gold Baskets. (Only the Recreation Division played from the Silver Tees to the Silver Baskets.) All divisions also played two round each on the newly opened Cherry Hill front 9, another long course with several holes clocking in at 4 par or more.

The new course did a number on a lot of players scores as did the surprise decision to have most everyone play gold to gold, but that didn't change the winners circle much for the Pro Division. For the second year in a row, Daniel Marcus (total score 108) beat Johnny Betts (total score 116) on his own course for the first place win. And unlike the forced-to-a-tie-breaker result of last year, Daniel bests the field by a full 8 points. Here's how the scores breakdown for the GMDGC members who competed.

AM1 Division was taken by Ian Thurston beating the 2nd place James Sweet by 2 points. And the results prove that Johnny Nelson didn’t earn the #73 BagTag that he took home. Johnny was one of many causalities — including myself — in my bag tag fiasco. (Please accept my apology to the multiple people who got back the wrong tag.)

AM2 Division finished with an exciting tie breaker between Justin, Dave, and Ann. But in the end, Justin Kaulius took the victory and the first place prize of a brand new portable practice basket. Nice work Justin!

AM Masters Division was a battle royal as Jay and Charlie worked hard to over take Mike in the second round at Cherry Hill. But Mike hung tough and nailed the victory with a total score of 134 for the day.

After the tournament ended and all the prizes and trophies were handed out, players who stayed were matched up for a round of doubles on the Gold/Gold course. The tournament made it all day rain free, but the evening doubles did not have the same luck. Starting almost immediately after the game began, the sky opened up a downpour. Multiple teams dropped out, but not everyone. Here’s a taste of what it looked like to those who stayed and played.
