The 6th annual Ice Bucket set records in attendance, money raised and prizes donated. With nearly 60 players there for amazing turnout and great weather to boot we reached our goal and raised $6125.86 for the Waterbury Area Food Shelf and had a lot of fun in the process.

A very special thank you to all the players that attended and donated, to all the friends and family of the participants that donated and to all the business’s that donated prizes in support of the event. Thank You!!

Let’s not forget to give a a huge shout out to newly elected President Chris Young for keeping us going and Pete Hess for all his work getting us all checked in and winners calculated (in the dark no less). Justin DeVico for starting off 2012 membership packet distribution as newly elected membership director and Anne Lewis for all the prize coordination.

Dave Frothingham won a nail bitter tie breaker over Pete Hess in the singles division with Dave using less mulligans squeezing Pete out. They both shot 18 under for a score of 36 – wow! Pete fought back with winning overall for the day with a score of 77. Second Round Doubles went to James Sweat and Steve Sawyer winning a 3 way tie by using less mulligans for a score of 41.

The great raffle prizes went to Dave Carter (Burton Snowboard) and Murray Junod (Acoustic Stagg Guitar).

Another highlight of the day was Murray back for one of his first rounds since knee surgery came back in full swing for an Ace on hole 8 – his fourth ever. Pretty nice way to start a season off right. Murray wasn’t alone – Dylan Cote, who just started playing last summer, hit his first ace ever on Hole 12. Not too shabby at all. Congrats to Murray and Dylan!

We have some great photos of the day up on the GMDGC Facebook Page (and don’t forget to like us while you are there).

Come join us in an exciting event on October 15th at Center Chains Disc Golf Course in Waterbury Center, VT. The format is 36 holes either from the red tees or closer designated tees, using only 2 discs!! The 2011 player pack is expected to include two identical Discraft prototype discs made especially for Ace Race, plus a SuperColor mini, sticker and a sweet disc bag for every player. More than a $50 value!

YOU MUST PREREGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 29TH SO THE PLAYER PACKAGES CAN BE ORDERED!! HERE IS THE LINK FOR REGISTERING:

http://gmdgc.org/tournaments/ace-race-2011/

OR Call Justin DeVico our guest TD at 732-687-4635

Rules of play:
Players are required to use the player package discs, and only these discs. If a disc is lost, the player has the option of using the second disc from the package. Only one throw per player per hole. All players should have their own scorecards and mark “A” for aces (a hole-in-one) and “M” for holes on which they hit metal.

The player with the most aces after 36 holes is declared the winner. In case of ties, the number of metal hits is used as a tie breaker. If a tie persists, a closest to the pin contest is then used to determine the event winner.

Grand prize for each event is a Discraft merchandise package, including a bag and eight new discs.

Come one, come all, to the 20th edition of The North Calais Disc Golf Club’s annual summer blowout tournament! There are many descriptions of this mythical gem of a course, but perhaps it’s best to leave it at “once played, never forgotten.” Recent course changes have the Gold Tees playing just short of 8,000 ft and clocking in at a Par of 65. Despite those intimidating figures, Calais sports 3 other tee configurations and is fun to play for disc golfers of all abilities.

As the 7th stop of the 2011 Green Mountain Point Series, The Calais Open is situated in the very heart of the summer. The action on the course promises to be exciting as golfers from many divisions battle it out in hopes of securing prime position for championship runs. To peruse the latest standings, simply click here: http://gmdgc.org/gmps/2011-standings/. There will be heartbreak, there may be tears. Let us all hope there is a infamous Calais Playoff.

Since this is a celebration for the NCDGC there will be a commemorative disc for sale priced from $10-$15 depending on plastic. There will also be many other fun challenges during the tournament including a number of bounties, clostest-to-the-pin competitions, and an Ace Pot. Check out the following link to the tournaments forum topic as it will be updated when more information on this event becomes available. Below the forum link is the link to the pre-registration page. Make sure to pre-reg as this will fill at 72 players! Get excited!

Numbers mean everything. They seldom lie. There are two numbers that you need to know about right now. The first is “1” and the second is “219.05.” When the Green Mountain Points Series points are unveiled this week these numbers will help solidify the Frothecy of 2011.

Months ago I predicted that 2011 would be the year that Dave Frothingham would stand atop the Green Mountain Points Series. With his 51 at Black Falls Gold to Gold, Frothy clinched a one-point win over Emmett Cosgrove at Black Falls V.

Emmett’s been the hot name on tour after two close Money Game finishes and his one-disc dominance, but he couldn’t hold off Frothy at Black Falls. Dave’s combined 219.05 points will put him in first place in the Open Division standings, more than 11 points over reigning champ Johnny Betts.
