Dave has talked with the Waterbury Gen. Store about doing lunch for us and they would be happy to do this. The store needs to know how many people are going to be included in this. So....please post here or send me an email if you are going to be attending the Ice Bucket. I just need your name and we can collect payment the morning before the tournament! Thanks for the help.

I've been working on re-arranging the ol' schedule to be able to play, however, at the moment i'll be in Boston the day of the tourney. If anything changes i'll let you know, Chris. Definitely going to try to help raise some money either way. Should all club members try to raise a little even if they can't make the Ice Bowl?

For anyone who doesn't know much about the Ice Bowl series or the Ice Bucket in general here's my 2 cents:

I'm sure that all of us at some point have thought about how great a place the world would be if everyone spent just a little more time doing nice things for other people. I certainly have. Fortunately for us, we now have that opportunity and you get to play disc golf at the same time.

It is an unfortunate truth that a significant number of our friends and neighbors have trouble keeping food on the table. Whether or not you know it, you probably know someone who has needed help at some point in their life just to keep from going hungry. Fortunately we live in a great state full of local community efforts focussed on keeping everyone in our neighborhoods fed. Since these groups do this full time, they are really good at turning a little money into a lot of food. That's where we come in. Simply by showing up and making a $20 donation, you will get to play 2 rounds of disc golf and most likely walk away with some really cool schwag to boot (thanks to many generous local businesses). That $20 along with every other penny that is donated by players (and non-players) in support of this effort will be presented to 2 food shelves and directly supports people from our communities.

I honestly can't think of a more fulfilling activity and as much as I love playing disc golf and as much as I play throughout the year, the Ice Bowl events are the ones that I remember the most. Fortunately I have had the opportunity more than once to be the person who directly hands off the donation - there is nothing like seeing the gratitude on their faces when I explain that a small group of disc golfers raised over $2000 to support others in their community.

So come on out, bring the thermos of hot chocolate, bring your discs (leave the white ones at home), bring your donations and enjoy a day of disc golf fun where no matter how you play you feel good about it.

Hope to see everyone out there!

Can't wait for the event, all. Quick question (as my dg experience is limited to the Southern states)... do I need to pack my snowshoes? :) I'm there, either way. Just a little local advise could help. Thanks.

Usually there is a narrow packed trail down each fairway. Just make sure all your shots land in this 2 foot stretch and you should be fine. :D The more important element would be ribbons. I lost two or three discs during the Ice Bucket last year because I forgot my ribbons. I was fortunate enough to get 5 of 7 lost discs back last winter, but it's better to not lose them in the first place.

I was taken into the hospital yesterday with a pinched nerve in my lower back, but I intend to be fully recovered and hucking hard by Ice Bucket time. Count me in!

SO last year some of us spent the week before going out almost every day to pack down the tee pads and trails to baskets as well as up to a 30ft circle around the pins...SO if anyone is looking for some snowshoeing fun this is a great way to get the course in prime winter disc shape for all so we don't need snowshoes!!!
