The 11th GMDGC Ice Bucket is only ONE WEEK AWAY, taking place on Saturday, February 4th at the Center Chains disc golf course in Waterbury Center, VT. This event is part of the National Ice Bowl series where participants play disc golf in mid-winter in order to raise money for local food shelves. It is a great way for ALL Vermont disc golfers to have fun, donate to a good cause, and enjoy the Vermont disc golf community.

GMDGC President Chris Young spearheads donations and fundraising and Treasurer Pete Hess helps direct the event while over 50 Vermont disc golfers fund raise and show up to play. All entry fees, donations, sponsorship cash, and purchased mulligans (a fun quirk of the Ice Bucket that gives players multiple shot attempts for $$$) go towards the fundraising goal of $16,000! Each player gets to leave with a little something, as local businesses support the event by donating dozens of prizes to the event. On top of the fundraising, players do compete to win the event which has a singles round followed by a doubles round. The Ice Bucket has a rich history of being one of the most productive Ice Bowls in the entire world. In 2016 Ice Bowls in total had 13,140 disc golfers participate and raise $357,452, which pushes the charitable total raised by Ice Bowls since 1996 to $3.51 million. All of this money was given to local organizations dedicated to fighting hunger. Here in Vermont, our GMDGC Ice Bowl, came in 2nd Place for “Money Raised” out of 218 events nationwide. We raised a record high of $15,143!!! To date, the GMDGC Ice Bowl has raised close to $64,000 in 10 years!! The local food shelves that we have given to have been the Waterbury Emergency Food Shelf and the Lamoille Community Food Share. Join in to help make an impact!

It’s not too late to join! If you cannot attend, but would like to donate, please do so: DONATE. There are prizes for the top money raiser, so list the disc golfer that you would like to donate in the name of! Even if you can only give a small amount, or show up to play, every little bit helps!
